Jonah and the Second Chance — a 5-minute devotion for Kladno families
Jonah 1-3 · God's second chances
Jonah was sent to a city he did not like, so he sailed the opposite way. A storm, a fish and three dark days later, he was back on the shore — and the word of the Lord came to him a second time.
This works best in Kladno as a bedtime reading. Lights low, Jonah 1-3 read slowly, the memory verse said twice, then the prayer. Younger children fall asleep on "god's second chances"; older ones usually want to argue about it first, which is fine.
Memory verse
“Then the word of the Lord came to Jonah a second time.”Jonah 3:1
Table question
Where do you need a second chance — and who could you give one to?
30-second prayer
God, thank you for second chances. Help us hand them out as freely as we take them. Amen.
Make it stick: draw it. Younger children draw the moment in Jonah 1-3 they remember; older ones write one sentence about why it bothered them. Stick both on the wall.
Tomorrow: Jonah under the vine (Jonah 4). ArkQuest queues the next reading automatically, so nobody has to decide what comes after tonight.
On Mount Carmel, Elijah rebuilt an altar of twelve stones before calling on the Lord. What did the twelve stones represent?
