Ruth Chooses to Stay — a 5-minute devotion for Elche families

Ruth 1 · Loyalty that costs something

After losing everything, Naomi told her daughters-in-law to go home. Ruth refused, promising to stay with her, in her land, with her God. She walked into a foreign country with nothing but that promise.

This works best in Elche as a bedtime reading. Lights low, Ruth 1 read slowly, the memory verse said twice, then the prayer. Younger children fall asleep on "loyalty that costs something"; older ones usually want to argue about it first, which is fine.

Memory verse

“Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay.”

Ruth 1:16

Table question

Who in our family needs you to stay close this week?

30-second prayer

God, make us loyal like Ruth — the kind of people who stay. Amen.

Make it stick: write "Ruth 1:16" on the fridge tonight. Every time someone in the house opens it this week, they say the verse out loud. Elche kids find this funnier than it deserves, which is exactly why it works.

Tomorrow: Ruth in the harvest field (Ruth 2). ArkQuest queues the next reading automatically, so nobody has to decide what comes after tonight.
