Gideon's Small Army — a 5-minute devotion for Davao families

Judges 7 · God shrinks the odds on purpose

Gideon had thirty-two thousand men. God said it was too many, and cut the army to three hundred — armed with trumpets, jars and torches. The victory could belong to nobody but God.

Use this one on the Davao weekend, when there is room for a longer conversation. Read Judges 7, talk through the question properly, then write the memory verse somewhere everyone will see it on Monday.

Memory verse

“You have too many men. Israel would boast against me.”

Judges 7:2

Table question

When has something gone right in a way you could not take credit for?

30-second prayer

God, you do not need our numbers. Use our small offering however you like. Amen.

Make it stick: let a child read Judges 7 out loud tomorrow instead of you. Reading it to the family is worth ten times hearing it.

Tomorrow: Gideon's fleece (Judges 6:36-40). ArkQuest queues the next reading automatically, so nobody has to decide what comes after tonight.
