Ruth Chooses to Stay — a 5-minute devotion for Loei families

Ruth 1 · Loyalty that costs something

After losing everything, Naomi told her daughters-in-law to go home. Ruth refused, promising to stay with her, in her land, with her God. She walked into a foreign country with nothing but that promise.

Parents in Loei often ask what to do when siblings are years apart in age. Read Ruth 1 together, then split the question: ask the younger child what happened in the story, and ask the older one why "loyalty that costs something" is harder than it sounds.

Memory verse

“Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay.”
Ruth 1:16

Table question

Who in our family needs you to stay close this week?

30-second prayer

God, make us loyal like Ruth — the kind of people who stay. Amen.

Make it stick: ask the same question again at breakfast tomorrow. Answers change overnight, and hearing that change is how a child learns that loyalty that costs something is something you practise, not something you know.

Tomorrow: Ruth in the harvest field (Ruth 2). ArkQuest queues the next reading automatically, so nobody has to decide what comes after tonight.
