Family Advent Devotions: A Simple 25-Day Plan (No Elf, No Stress)

Advent is where family devotions actually stick, because the calendar itself provides the rhythm. Here's a plan you can run this year without buying anything.
The 25-day rhythm
Each night, light a candle. Read one prophecy or Gospel verse. Sing one line of a carol. Blow out the candle. Three minutes total. Twenty-five days of it will shape your kids more than any Advent devotional book.
Week-by-week themes
Week 1: *God promised.* Week 2: *God prepared.* Week 3: *God came.* Week 4: *God is with us.* One theme per week, one short verse per day.
Christmas morning close
Before presents, read Luke 2:1–20 out loud. Every year. It becomes the family's most sacred five minutes. See our [year-round family devotional guide](https://getarkquest.com/blog/family-devotional-ideas) for how to keep the rhythm going in January.
Frequently asked questions
Do we need an Advent wreath?
No. Any candle works. Any four candles work. Buy nothing — start tonight.
What if we start late in December?
Start today, whatever day it is. Miss no future days. Advent is about the coming, not the counting.
