Back-to-School Family Devotions: A First 30 Days Reset

An open Bible next to a coffee mug and bowl of cereal on a sunlit breakfast table

The first month of school is when your family's whole calendar reboots. Use it. This is the single best window all year to start (or restart) family devotions.

Week 1: one verse, five nights

Pick Joshua 1:9 — *be strong and courageous.* Read it every night for a week. Ask: *where did you need courage today?*

Week 2: pray by name each night

Each night, name every teacher, every classmate on their heart, every situation. Kids need to know their school life is prayed over.

Weeks 3–4: build the anchor habit

Pick one time — bedtime or breakfast — and commit to it. See our [family devotional ideas post](https://getarkquest.com/blog/family-devotional-ideas) for the ten most tested formats.

Frequently asked questions

What if the schedule is already overloaded?

Start with two minutes at bedtime. That's the whole assignment. Overloaded schedules are exactly why shorter beats longer.

Do we include homework prayer?

Yes. Praying for a math test is one of the most concrete forms of trust a nine-year-old can practice.
