Genesis 1: A Family Devotion About a World Made On Purpose

**Read the first chapter out loud and listen for the repetition.** "And God saw that it was good" lands six times, then "very good" at the end. A written text that repeats a line that often is telling you where to look.
Order, then filling
The first three days make spaces — light and dark, sky and sea, land. The next three fill them — sun and moon, birds and fish, animals and people. It is deliberately patterned, and children spot the pattern quickly if you set them looking for it.
Made, not left over
The chapter's argument is that nothing here is an accident, including the person sitting next to you. That is the sentence to say out loud tonight, using their name.
For the table
Go round and have each person name one thing from today that they'd call good. That is the chapter's own exercise.
Tonight's five minutes
**Read:** Genesis 1, out loud, twice. **Ask:** What was good today — one thing each, out loud? **Pray:** God, you made all of it and called it good. Thank you for today's good thing. Amen.
If you'd rather not choose the passage yourself, tonight's family devotion is already written for this evening — one passage, one table question and a 30-second prayer, refreshed every day. You can also have it emailed to you each evening so it arrives before dinner.
