Thanksgiving Family Devotions: 7 Days of Gratitude With Kids

An open Bible next to a coffee mug and bowl of cereal on a sunlit breakfast table

Thanksgiving week is a rare thing: a week where the whole culture happens to be pointing your family toward gratitude. Ride the wave.

The 7-day plan

Each night, one person names three things they're grateful for. Read one short psalm of thanks (Ps 100, Ps 103, Ps 118). Pray one sentence back to God. Three minutes. Seven days.

The Thanksgiving-morning verse

1 Thessalonians 5:16–18: *rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances.* Post it on the fridge. Read it before the turkey.

The gratitude jar

All week, drop written thank-yous in a jar. Read them out loud after Thanksgiving dinner. Keep the jar going year-round — see our [pillar family devotions post](https://getarkquest.com/blog/family-devotional-ideas) for how to convert it into a permanent household rhythm.

Frequently asked questions

What if we're hosting and it's chaos?

Move the devotion to the morning. Even three minutes with just your immediate family before guests arrive is enough.

Any short verse to memorize?

Psalm 118:24. *This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.* Every family should know it by the end of the week.
