Tonight's Family Devotion in 5 Minutes (Passage, Question, Prayer)

A family sitting around a dinner table with an open Bible after the evening meal

**A family devotion tonight needs three things: one passage, one question, one prayer.** That is the whole format. It takes five minutes, it works from age four upward, and it survives tired parents — which is the only test that matters.

If you want tonight's reading already chosen for you, open /tonights-family-devotion. The passage, the table question and the 30-second prayer are written out for today, and they change every evening.

The 5-minute format

1. **Read** the passage out loud, twice. Slowly the second time. 2. **Ask** one question with no wrong answer — "where did God take care of you today?" 3. **Pray** for thirty seconds. Let a child do it.

That's it. No curriculum, no lesson plan, no craft supplies. The point is contact with Scripture at a moment your family already shares.

Anchor it to dinner

The habit survives when it rides on one you already have. Dinner plates still on the table is the highest-completion moment of the day in most households — far better than bedtime, when everyone is negotiating.

Five passages to start with

Psalm 23 (God takes care of us), John 3:16 (why Jesus came), Genesis 1 (God made everything on purpose), Proverbs 3:5-6 (trusting when we don't understand), Philippians 4:6-7 (what to do with worry). Rotate one per evening and you have your first week done.

Keep a streak, not a schedule

A missed night isn't failure. Pick it up the next evening. Children remember the count of nights you did it, never the nights you skipped.
