Paul and Silas Sing in Prison — a 5-minute devotion for Bayview Village families

Acts 16:16-34 · Songs at midnight

Beaten and locked in the inner cell with their feet in stocks, Paul and Silas were singing hymns at midnight. An earthquake shook the doors open — and instead of running, they stayed and the jailer's whole family came to faith.

Use this one on the Bayview Village weekend, when there is room for a longer conversation. Read Acts 16:16-34, talk through the question properly, then write the memory verse somewhere everyone will see it on Monday.

Memory verse

“About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God.”

Acts 16:25

Table question

What song could we sing on a hard day?

30-second prayer

God, teach us midnight songs — praise that does not wait for things to improve. Amen.

Make it stick: let a child read Acts 16:16-34 out loud tomorrow instead of you. Reading it to the family is worth ten times hearing it.

Tomorrow: Lydia by the river (Acts 16:11-15). ArkQuest queues the next reading automatically, so nobody has to decide what comes after tonight.
