Jonah and the Second Chance — a 5-minute devotion for Wychwood families

Jonah 1-3 · God's second chances

Jonah was sent to a city he did not like, so he sailed the opposite way. A storm, a fish and three dark days later, he was back on the shore — and the word of the Lord came to him a second time.

Use this one on the Wychwood weekend, when there is room for a longer conversation. Read Jonah 1-3, talk through the question properly, then write the memory verse somewhere everyone will see it on Monday.

Memory verse

“Then the word of the Lord came to Jonah a second time.”

Jonah 3:1

Table question

Where do you need a second chance — and who could you give one to?

30-second prayer

God, thank you for second chances. Help us hand them out as freely as we take them. Amen.

Make it stick: pick one person in Wychwood — a neighbour, a grandparent, a classmate — and do the thing the story asks for before Sunday. God's second chances only counts once it costs something.

Tomorrow: Jonah under the vine (Jonah 4). ArkQuest queues the next reading automatically, so nobody has to decide what comes after tonight.
