The Walls of Jericho — a 5-minute devotion for Bentley families

Joshua 6 · Trusting instructions that look strange

God's instructions made no military sense: walk around the city once a day for six days, then seven times on the seventh, and shout. They did it. The walls fell outward.

This works best in Bentley as a bedtime reading. Lights low, Joshua 6 read slowly, the memory verse said twice, then the prayer. Younger children fall asleep on "trusting instructions that look strange"; older ones usually want to argue about it first, which is fine.

Memory verse

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous.”

Joshua 1:9

Table question

What is one thing God asks of us that feels strange but worth trying?

30-second prayer

Lord, we like plans that make sense. Help us trust yours when they do not. Amen.

Make it stick: let a child read Joshua 6 out loud tomorrow instead of you. Reading it to the family is worth ten times hearing it.

Tomorrow: Rahab's red cord (Joshua 2). ArkQuest queues the next reading automatically, so nobody has to decide what comes after tonight.
