Daniel 6 · Ages 5–11
Daniel in the Lions' Den
Daniel kept praying to God even when the king made it illegal — and God shut the lions' mouths.
Big idea
Obey God, and let him handle the outcome.
Read-aloud
1. A jealous plot
Daniel worked for the king and did his job so well that other officials got jealous. They tricked the king into signing a law: pray only to the king for 30 days.
2. Praying anyway
Daniel opened his windows and prayed to God three times a day — just like always. He wouldn't hide his faith.
3. The lions' den
The king had to throw Daniel into a pit of lions. The king said, 'May your God rescue you.' A big stone was rolled over the pit.
4. Morning surprise
At dawn the king ran to the pit. Daniel called back, 'God sent his angel and shut the lions' mouths.' Not a scratch.
Memory verse
“My God sent his angel and shut the lions' mouths.”
— Daniel 6:22
Talk about it
- When is it hard to pray or talk about God at school?
- What would it look like to 'open the windows' this week?
- How has God protected our family?
Family prayer
God, help us stay faithful even when it costs something. We trust you with what happens next. Amen.
