Exodus 14 · Ages 4–10
Moses and the Red Sea
Trapped between an army and an ocean, God's people watched God split the sea in two.
Big idea
When you're trapped, God is not.
Read-aloud
1. Escape from Egypt
God had rescued Israel from slavery. Pharaoh changed his mind and chased them with his army and chariots.
2. Nowhere to run
The people reached the Red Sea. Water in front, an army behind. They panicked. Moses said, 'Stand still and see what God will do.'
3. Waters split
God sent a strong wind all night. The sea split into two walls of water. Israel walked across on dry ground.
4. Safe on the other side
When Pharaoh's army followed, the walls collapsed. Israel sang a song thanking God on the far shore.
Memory verse
“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
— Exodus 14:14
Talk about it
- When have you felt 'trapped' this year?
- What does it look like to 'be still' and trust God?
- How has God made a way for our family?
Family prayer
God, when we can't see a way, remind us you always can. Amen.
