Luke 10:25–37 · Ages 5–11
The Good Samaritan
Jesus told a story about who our neighbor really is — the one who shows mercy, even to a stranger.
Big idea
Loving your neighbor means noticing the person others walk past.
Read-aloud
1. A dangerous road
A man was walking from Jerusalem to Jericho when robbers attacked him and left him half dead by the road.
2. Two men walk past
A priest saw him and crossed to the other side. A Levite did the same. Both were 'religious' — both kept walking.
3. An unlikely hero
A Samaritan — someone Jewish people usually avoided — saw the man and had compassion. He bandaged him, put him on his donkey, and paid for his care.
4. Now go
Jesus asked, 'Who was the neighbor?' The lawyer said, 'The one who showed mercy.' Jesus said, 'You go and do the same.'
Memory verse
“Love your neighbor as yourself.”
— Mark 12:31
Talk about it
- Who at school or in our neighborhood gets walked past?
- What's one thing we could do this week to be a 'Samaritan' for someone?
- Why do you think the priest kept walking?
Family prayer
Jesus, help us see the people you see. Give us brave, kind hearts this week. Amen.
