Daniel 3 · Ages 5–11

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego

Three friends refused to bow to a golden statue — and God met them in the middle of a fiery furnace.

Big idea

God doesn't always keep you out of the fire — he walks into it with you.

Read-aloud

1. A golden statue

King Nebuchadnezzar built a huge gold statue and ordered everyone to bow when the music played.

2. Three friends stand

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego wouldn't bow. They said, 'Our God can rescue us. Even if he doesn't, we still won't bow.'

3. Into the fire

The furnace was heated seven times hotter than usual. The three were thrown in, tied up.

4. Four in the fire

The king looked in and saw four figures walking — the fourth 'like a son of the gods.' The three came out without a burn or the smell of smoke.

Memory verse

Our God whom we serve is able to deliver us.

Daniel 3:17

Talk about it

  • When has it been hard to stand alone for God?
  • What 'fire' are you in right now?
  • How does it feel to know Jesus walks into it with you?

Family prayer

God, give us brave hearts like these three friends. Walk with us in every fire. Amen.
