Mark 4:35–41 · Ages 4–10
Jesus Calms the Storm
A storm nearly sank the disciples' boat while Jesus was napping. One word from him and the sea went still.
Big idea
Jesus is bigger than any storm — and he's in the boat with you.
Read-aloud
1. A quick trip
Jesus said, 'Let's go to the other side of the lake.' They set off in the boat. Jesus fell asleep on a cushion.
2. A wild storm
A huge storm blew in. Waves crashed over the boat. The disciples were terrified — Jesus kept sleeping.
3. 'Don't you care?'
They woke him up: 'Teacher, don't you care if we drown?' Jesus stood, faced the wind, and said, 'Peace! Be still!'
4. Instant calm
The wind stopped. The water went flat. Jesus asked, 'Why are you so afraid? Where's your faith?' They wondered, 'Who is this that even the wind obeys him?'
Memory verse
“Peace! Be still!”
— Mark 4:39
Talk about it
- What storm feels scary in your life?
- How does it help to know Jesus is 'in the boat'?
- What would 'peace, be still' sound like from Jesus to you today?
Family prayer
Jesus, our storm feels big — but you are bigger. Speak peace over us. Amen.
