Genesis 37; 50 · Ages 6–12
Joseph's Colorful Coat
Joseph was sold by his brothers, forgotten in prison, and ended up saving a nation — because God turns bad things into good.
Big idea
God writes good endings out of hard chapters.
Read-aloud
1. A special coat
Joseph was his father's favorite. He got a bright coat. His brothers hated it — and him.
2. Sold as a slave
The brothers threw Joseph in a pit and sold him to traders. He was carried off to Egypt.
3. Prison and dreams
In Egypt, Joseph was blamed for something he didn't do and locked in prison. But God gave him wisdom to explain dreams — even Pharaoh's.
4. A great rescue
Pharaoh put Joseph in charge of all Egypt. When his brothers came for food during famine, Joseph forgave them: 'You meant evil, but God meant it for good.'
Memory verse
“You meant evil against me, but God meant it for good.”
— Genesis 50:20
Talk about it
- What's a hard chapter our family is in right now?
- Who has hurt you that you might need to forgive?
- How could God be at work even when it doesn't feel like it?
Family prayer
God, we can't see the ending, but you can. Help us trust and forgive like Joseph. Amen.
