Ruth 1–4 · Ages 6–12
Ruth's Loyal Love
Ruth chose to stay with her mother-in-law and follow God — and God wrote her into Jesus's family tree.
Big idea
Loyalty and hard work are seeds God grows into big stories.
Read-aloud
1. Sad days
Ruth's husband died. Her mother-in-law Naomi wanted to go home to Israel alone. Ruth said, 'Where you go, I go. Your God is my God.'
2. Picking up leftovers
In Israel, Ruth gleaned leftover grain in the fields to feed them both. She worked hard from dawn to dusk.
3. Boaz notices
The field belonged to Boaz. He was kind, made sure she was safe, and gave her extra grain.
4. A new family
Boaz married Ruth. Their great-grandson was King David — and Jesus came from that family line.
Memory verse
“Where you go, I will go.”
— Ruth 1:16
Talk about it
- Who has been loyal to you? Who could you be loyal to?
- How is our family being loyal to God?
- What 'small' thing might God be growing right now?
Family prayer
God, help us love people the way Ruth loved Naomi — for the long haul. Amen.
