1 Samuel 3 · Ages 4–10
God Calls Samuel
A young boy heard God's voice in the night — and answered, 'Speak, Lord, your servant is listening.'
Big idea
God speaks to kids too — start listening now.
Read-aloud
1. A boy in the temple
Samuel served God in the temple with Eli the priest. He was still just a kid.
2. A voice at night
One night Samuel heard someone call his name. He ran to Eli — but Eli hadn't called. It happened three times.
3. 'Speak, Lord'
Eli figured out God was calling. He told Samuel: next time say, 'Speak, Lord, your servant is listening.'
4. A lifetime of listening
Samuel heard God and obeyed. He grew up to be one of Israel's greatest prophets — because he learned to listen young.
Memory verse
“Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.”
— 1 Samuel 3:9
Talk about it
- How do you think God 'talks' to us today?
- What's one thing you sense God asking you this week?
- How can our family create quiet time to listen?
Family prayer
God, we're listening. Speak to us — we want to obey like Samuel. Amen.
