Exodus 12 · Ages 6–12
The First Passover
The blood of a lamb over the door saved Israel — pointing forward to Jesus, God's rescue Lamb.
Big idea
A lamb died so you could live free — Jesus is that Lamb.
Read-aloud
1. Nine plagues
Pharaoh had refused to free Israel through nine plagues. God said one more would break Egypt's grip.
2. A perfect lamb
Each family took a spotless lamb, roasted it, and painted its blood over their doorframe.
3. Passing over
That night God's judgment passed over every home marked with blood. Every Egyptian firstborn was struck.
4. Freedom
Before sunrise, Pharaoh sent Israel out. God's people walked into freedom because a lamb had died in their place.
Memory verse
“Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!”
— John 1:29
