Walking with Jesus to Emmaus
Two sad disciples walked home after Easter — and didn't recognize Jesus walking beside them until he broke bread.
Big idea
Jesus is closer than you think on your hardest walk.
Read-aloud
1. A sad walk home
It was Easter Sunday. Two disciples were walking to Emmaus, heartbroken. Jesus had been killed and they didn't understand.
2. A stranger joins
Jesus started walking with them — but they didn't recognize him. He asked what they were talking about.
3. Bible study on the road
Jesus walked them through the whole Bible, showing how everything pointed to him. Their hearts started to burn.
4. Bread and eyes opened
They invited him for dinner. When he broke the bread, their eyes opened — it was Jesus! Then he vanished. They ran back to Jerusalem to tell everyone.
Memory verse
“Did not our hearts burn within us while he talked to us on the road?”
— Luke 24:32
Talk about it
- When have you felt Jesus was far away — but maybe he was close?
- How does the whole Bible point to Jesus?
- What 'road' is our family walking right now?
Family prayer
Jesus, walk with us on the road we're on. Open our eyes to see you. Amen.
