Mark 12:41–44 · Ages 5–11
The Widow's Two Coins
A poor widow gave two tiny coins — and Jesus said she gave more than the rich.
Big idea
God measures giving by love, not amount.
Read-aloud
1. People-watching at the temple
Jesus sat near the temple offering box and watched people give. Rich people put in big amounts.
2. Two small coins
A poor widow came and put in two of the smallest coins there were — worth almost nothing.
3. Jesus notices
Jesus called his disciples over. 'Truly, this poor widow put in more than all of them.'
4. Everything she had
The rich gave leftovers. She gave everything she had to live on — and God saw it.
Memory verse
“She out of her poverty put in everything she had.”
— Mark 12:44
Talk about it
- What 'two coins' could you give God this week — time, kindness, money?
- Why does God care about the heart more than the amount?
- How does it feel that God notices what no one else does?
Family prayer
God, we give what we have with a full heart. Please notice and use it. Amen.
