Tonight's family reading · Ilheus

Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego — a 5-minute devotion for Ilheus families

Daniel 3 · Even if he does not

Three young men refused to bow to a golden statue. Told they would be thrown into a furnace, they answered that God was able to save them — but even if he did not, they still would not bow. A fourth figure walked with them in the fire.

Use this one on the Ilheus weekend, when there is room for a longer conversation. Read Daniel 3, talk through the question properly, then write the memory verse somewhere everyone will see it on Monday.

Memory verse

“But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods.”
Daniel 3:18

Table question

What would you keep believing even if the answer was no?

30-second prayer

God, give us the 'even if' kind of faith. Walk with us in the hot places. Amen.

Make it stick: ask the same question again at breakfast tomorrow. Answers change overnight, and hearing that change is how a child learns that even if he does not is something you practise, not something you know.

Tomorrow: Daniel and the lions (Daniel 6). ArkQuest queues the next reading automatically, so nobody has to decide what comes after tonight.
