Zacchaeus in the Tree — a 5-minute devotion for Novo Hamburgo families

Luke 19:1-10 · Being seen changes people

A short, unpopular tax collector climbed a sycamore tree to see Jesus over the crowd. Jesus stopped, looked up and invited himself to dinner. By the end of the meal, Zacchaeus was giving half his wealth away.

Families in Novo Hamburgo tend to run this one at the dinner table. Read Luke 19:1-10 out loud while the plates are still down, ask the question once, and let the youngest answer first. It takes about five minutes and it does not need anyone to have prepared.

Memory verse

“The Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

Luke 19:10

Table question

Who in your class or street feels unseen right now?

30-second prayer

Jesus, you looked up and called him by name. Help us see the people others skip over. Amen.

Make it stick: on the way through Novo Hamburgo tomorrow, one person says the first half of "The Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost." and someone else finishes it. Three tries and it is memorised.

Tomorrow: the widow's two coins (Luke 21:1-4). ArkQuest queues the next reading automatically, so nobody has to decide what comes after tonight.
