The Wise and Foolish Builders — a 5-minute devotion for Sao Bernardo families

Matthew 7:24-27 · What your life is built on

Two houses looked the same until the storm came. One was built on rock and stood; one was built on sand and fell with a great crash. The difference was invisible until the weather changed.

Families in Sao Bernardo tend to run this one at the dinner table. Read Matthew 7:24-27 out loud while the plates are still down, ask the question once, and let the youngest answer first. It takes about five minutes and it does not need anyone to have prepared.

Memory verse

“Everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.”

Matthew 7:24

Table question

What is one thing we could actually do tomorrow with what we read tonight?

30-second prayer

Jesus, we hear a lot and do a little. Help us build on rock this week. Amen.

Make it stick: let a child read Matthew 7:24-27 out loud tomorrow instead of you. Reading it to the family is worth ten times hearing it.

Tomorrow: the narrow gate (Matthew 7:13-14). ArkQuest queues the next reading automatically, so nobody has to decide what comes after tonight.
