The Road to Emmaus — a 5-minute devotion for Joinville families

Luke 24:13-35 · Jesus walks with you before you notice

Two people walked home heartbroken, talking about everything that had gone wrong. A stranger joined them and explained the Scriptures. They recognised him only when he broke the bread — and then he was gone.

Parents in Joinville often ask what to do when siblings are years apart in age. Read Luke 24:13-35 together, then split the question: ask the younger child what happened in the story, and ask the older one why "jesus walks with you before you notice" is harder than it sounds.

Memory verse

“Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road?”

Luke 24:32

Table question

Where might Jesus have been walking with you this week without you noticing?

30-second prayer

Jesus, open our eyes on the ordinary road home. Amen.

Make it stick: write "Luke 24:32" on the fridge tonight. Every time someone in the house opens it this week, they say the verse out loud. Joinville kids find this funnier than it deserves, which is exactly why it works.

Tomorrow: Thomas touches the scars (John 20:24-29). ArkQuest queues the next reading automatically, so nobody has to decide what comes after tonight.
