Bartimaeus Shouts Louder — a 5-minute devotion for Recife families

Mark 10:46-52 · Ask for what you actually want

A blind beggar heard Jesus was passing and started shouting. The crowd told him to be quiet, so he shouted louder. Jesus stopped the whole procession and asked him one question: what do you want me to do for you?

Families in Recife tend to run this one at the dinner table. Read Mark 10:46-52 out loud while the plates are still down, ask the question once, and let the youngest answer first. It takes about five minutes and it does not need anyone to have prepared.

Memory verse

“What do you want me to do for you?”
Mark 10:51

Table question

If Jesus asked you that tonight, what would you say?

30-second prayer

Jesus, here is what we actually want. Thank you that you stop and ask. Amen.

Make it stick: pick one person in Recife — a neighbour, a grandparent, a classmate — and do the thing the story asks for before Sunday. Ask for what you actually want only counts once it costs something.

Tomorrow: the rich young ruler (Mark 10:17-27). ArkQuest queues the next reading automatically, so nobody has to decide what comes after tonight.
