Joseph Forgives His Brothers — a 5-minute devotion for Porto Alegre families

Genesis 45 · What people meant for harm

Sold by his own brothers and imprisoned for years, Joseph ended up second in Egypt. When his brothers arrived starving and did not recognise him, he wept out loud, told them who he was, and fed them.

Use this one on the Porto Alegre weekend, when there is room for a longer conversation. Read Genesis 45, talk through the question properly, then write the memory verse somewhere everyone will see it on Monday.

Memory verse

“You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good.”

Genesis 50:20

Table question

Is there someone you are still holding something against?

30-second prayer

God, forgiving is hard. Start the work in us tonight, even if it takes a long time. Amen.

Make it stick: on the way through Porto Alegre tomorrow, one person says the first half of "You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good." and someone else finishes it. Three tries and it is memorised.

Tomorrow: Joseph's dreams as a boy (Genesis 37). ArkQuest queues the next reading automatically, so nobody has to decide what comes after tonight.
